What a night at Legion Stadium! The Wilmington Hammerheads played host to the MLS’ Chicago Fire in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. The biggest crowd to see the Hammerheads in years was not only treated to a fantastic soccer game, but a thrilling, nail-biting win for the home team.
Kenny Bundy knocked home a cross by Tim Karalexis in the 38th minute, for the only goal of the game, as the Hammerheads advanced to the quarterfinals of the US Open Cup tournament.

That was two years ago, when the first issue of the Cape Fear Sports Report began with a feature on the CAA Baseball Tournament and an interview with Ashley Baseball Coach Brian Stewart. Some 54 issues and over one million printed pages later, the Cape Fear Sports Report continues to evolve. In hindsight, some would say it wasn't the best time to start a media business given the economy. Whatever, the CFSR is ready for year three... the best year yet. Thank you ...

The 19-year-old rookie and his crew gambled by staying out on the track while the rest of the field pitted for a fuel and tires.
