Hoggard Girls’ Tennis Team Celebrates Fantastic Season

November 1st, 2007 · No Comments

The Hoggard girls’ tennis team was close, very close to beating Broughton, a regional power-house when it comes to tennis. Coach Gwynn Honeycutt told the Cape Fear Sports Report, “We almost did it!! Broughton has been to the East Final for many years now in a row. I was proud of my team for playing them so close. Kaitlin, Maggie, and Elizabeth dominated in the singles, and Kaitlin and Maggie in their doubles. I am really pleased about our season, and especially with our win over Cape Fear Academy (now private school state champs) near the end of the season.”
The Vikings will be tough to beat next year, as they graduate only one player. Coach Honeycutt said, “We look forward to next year, and I think Kaitlin and Maggie may try for the doubles title!!” As far as this year goes, “Elite 8 and a state champion! It’s been awesome!!”
Congrats to Coach Honeycutt, Kaitlin Burns for her singles title and the rest of the team for an excellent year!
