Well the you-know-what finally hit the fan, and it aint pretty.
Barry Bonds, the all time home run king, was indicted on Thursday on five separate counts; four for perjury related to his testimony to the BALCO grand jury in 2003, their are apparently 19 different times when the prosecution believes Bonds lied under oath, and one count of obstruction of justice.
These are some serious charges and could carry some jail time. And with this case, could come the end of Bonds’ baseball career. There was a very limited market for the unpopular slugger, and now…well I think the market has locked its doors and I think I see a “closed” sign in the window.
The prosecution believes that Bonds lied when he denied use of steriods, knowingly using steriods, injecting steriods and using human growth hormone.
Bonds has mocked the Hall of Fame for accepting his homerun ball that fashion designer Marc Ecco bought; it now has an asterisk on it per Ecco’s poll of what fans thought he should do with the ball.
Bonds tried to make it sound like the Hall would be sorry because he would boycott his ceremony and never appear at the museum. And I thought to myself, what ceremony? Bonds is so full of himself, he just assumed all of this controversy wouldn’t affect his candidcy. Now, his chances of getting into the Hall are as good as the chances of him ever taking another at bat. Slim and none, and slim went to his grandma’s early for Thanksgiving.
If McGwire aint in…Bonds aint getting in. McGwire may have looked foolish at the hearings a few years ago, but he has never been indicted, and steroids weren’t even banned by baseball when McGwire was playing. That doen’t mean it was acceptable, but it is hard to bust a guy for speeding when there was no speed limit. But Bonds, on the other hand, had the pedal to the metal and was clocked doing 90 in a 55. And now he’s going to pay.
Innocent until proven guilty, sure. But really, I’m not blind and I’m not dumb. So, I guess one word sums it up, gone.  - Jesse Jones
