Cape Fear Community College - Hottest Sports Team In Wilmington?

Ashoke, N.C. – The Cape Fear Men’s Basketball team put their 6 game conference winning streak on the line Tuesday evening as the Sea Devils hit the road to take on Roanoke Chowan Community College. CFCC came into the game in a three-way tie for second place with Louisburg College and Brunswick Community College. Cape Fear struck first in the opening minute on a lay-up from Trishtan Johnson and another lay-up from Brandon Baskin. A pursuing 8-2 run by the Sea Devils extended their lead to 12 points with 10:00 minutes remaining in the first half. Roanoke determined to show they could hold their own answered on a 14-3 run of their own. Both teams battled back and forth for the remainder of the first half but a bucket by David McClenny and another from Xavier Kilby sent the Sea Devils into the locker room with a 37-33 lead.The second half brought new life to Cape Fear. Swarming defense and transition baskets extended the Sea Devil lead to 68-45 with 8:00 remaining in the contest. Roanoke would make one final push cutting the Sea Devil lead to 11 points with 4 minutes remaining, but CFCC once again stepped on the gas and pulled away for good. The victory gave Cape Fear its sixth straight win, improving their overall record to 11-5 and 7-1 in conference. Brandon Baskin lead the Sea Devils with 16 points and 4 assists while roommate David McClenny added another double double to his resume, recording 12 points and 11 rebounds. Xavier Kilby rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points and 6 rebounds.CFCC heads to Louisburg, N.C. Thursday evening for a tilt against co-leader Louisburg College. A win Thursday would keep Cape Fear atop the standings in the north division. Brunswick CC, Guilford Tech, Louisburg College, and Cape Fear all have only one loss in conference play.     I feel Cape Fear gets left out of the media way too much. I am glad to see capefearsportsreport taking the initiative to cover them. I recently attended a game and was very impressed with the level of basketball played. I hope others follow in your footsteps, Wilmington is missing out on the hottest team in town!
