The Laney girls’ basketball team, shown playing tenacious defense against Ashley last Friday, is the team to beat. Since their first round loss in the Holiday Tournament to Raleigh Millbrook on December 20, the Bucs have reeled off eight consecutive victories.

Laney 52 - White Oak 42

The Lady Bucs remained perfect in league play as they moved to 13-3 overall and 6-0 in the Mideastern Conference Tuesday with their ten point win over White Oak. Their unbeaten league record will remain in tact no matter of Friday’s outcome as they step out of conference to play at Pender.

Hoggard 59 - Jacksonville 38

The Lady Vikes improved to 11-6 on the season and 4-2 in the league with their 21 point victory over Jacksonville Tuesday night. The conference road win was their third in as many efforts. After jumping out to a 33-15 halftime lead, the Vikings cruised to the comfortable win. Hoggard will host West Brunswick (8-9, 2-4) on Friday.

New Hanover 52 - West Brunswick 33

The Wildcats bounced back from Friday’s loss to Hoggard and regained their scoring touch. After a tough night from the field when they could only muster 29 points, the New Hanover girls bested their performance by 23 points in their 52-33 win over West Brunswick. New Hanover is now 9-8 on the season and evened their Mideastern Conference mark at 3-3. The Lady ‘Cats will be back on the court Friday night when they travel to White Oak.

Cape Fear Academy 51 - Wilmington Christian Academy 28

With their convincing win over in town rival WCA, the CFA Lady Hurricanes improved to 15-3 on the season.
