February 24th, 2008 · No Comments

WILMINGTONN.C. – UNC Wilmington’s women’s 4×400 Relay team broke its own school record set earlier this season and Uri Robinson tied the school record in the 400 meters to pace the Seahawks Saturday at the Virginia Tech Challenge.

The relay team of sophomore Amanda Darden, junior Lauren Donaldson, freshman Alexis Kaufman and junior Bryerica Barnes finished eighth with a school-record time of 3:52.75. The same quartet had set the previous standard of 3:53.77 on Feb. 2 at the Texas Roadhouse Carolina Classic.

Robinson, meanwhile, finished ninth in the 400 meters, but managed to tie Charles Shoffner’s school record of 48.60, set in 2000, also at the Virginia Tech Challenge.

A pair of Seahawks shined in the Pole Vault on Saturday. Senior Colton Weaver set a personal best with a height of 16-0 3/4 and finished second, UNCW’s best finish of the day. Freshman Annie Powell, meanwhile, finished fourth and matched her career best with a mark of 11-7 3/4.

The Seahawk men open their outdoor season on Mar. 2, against Coastal Carolina in the Battle of the Beaches in ConwayS.C. The women will return to action when they open their outdoor slate on Mar. 8, at the Buccaneer Classic in Charleston,S.C.
