WILMINGTION, N.C. – Senior Lindsey Styons drew a bases-loaded walk with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift UNCW to a 7-6 victory over Mount St. Mary’s and earn a split of its games in the first day of the Hughes Bros. Tires Seahawk Classic Saturday at Boseman Field. The Seahawks fell to Lehigh, 7-1, in the first of their two games earlier in the day. The Seahawks moved to 1-3 overall with the split while the Mountaineers fell to 0-1. The Mountain Hawks improved to 2-0 overall with the win against the Seahawks, having opened the event with a 5-0 over Styons heroics came after Mount St. Mary’s freshman Nicole Reeder tied the game at 6-all in the top of the seventh on a double to center field that brought across two runs. UNCW had taken the lead in the fifth inning, belting out five hits to erase a 4-1 deficit. Junior Carley Hughes highlighted the frame with a double, her first extra-base hit of the season, that plated a pair of runs. Senior Meghan Murray, sophomore Morgan Walters and freshman Allison Lanouette all went 2-for-4 to pace the Seahawks lineup against the Mountaineers. Reeder was 3-for-4 with two RBI to highlight the Mount St. Mary’s attack. Senior Brittney Lehrschall picked up her first win of the season in relief of freshman starter Samantha Lisowsky. Lehrschall went two innings and gave up three hits while striking out four. Junior Kim Fowler was credited with the loss for the Mountaineers, allowing seven runs (all earned) on eight hits and three walks. Against Lehigh, the Mountain Hawks jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning, using four hits to build the early advantage. Senior Taryn Hanley punctuated the frame with a bases-loaded single that plated two runs. The Mountain Hawks added a run in the top of the third on a solo home run by junior Alisha Gonzales to make its 6-1 while UNCW got on the board in the bottom of the frame when freshman Rachel Sawyer crossed the plate on a passed ball. Lehigh closed out the scoring in the fifth inning as freshman Alex Cueva reached base on a double before scoring on an error. Hanley was 2-for-3 with two RBI while senior Kate Marvel was 2-for-4 as eight different Mountain Hawks recorded a hit in the contest. Senior Paige Wakefield went 1-for-2, recording the only UNCW hit of the game on a single in the bottom of the fifth. Sophomore Tiffany Curtis went all seven innings for the Mountain Hawks as she picked up her first win of the season. Curtis surrendered just one hit over seven innings and struck out 13 while walking two. Freshman Amanda Aditays went all seven innings for UNCW to fall to 0-2. She allowed seven runs (six earned) on 11 hits and four walks. She struck out five. UNCW returns to action Sunday at the Seahawk Classic with games versus
