PINEHURST, N.C. – Freshman Ryan Sullivan fashioned two-over-par 74 in the final round to lead UNC Wilmington as the Seahawks finished in 16th place at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate by Gatorade at Centennial Pinehurst #8.
No. 27 Indiana (286-292-287=865) cruised to the tournament win, leading from the opening round. The Hoosiers built a 24-stroke lead after two rounds and held onto that margin of victory. Eastern Kentucky (304-298-287=889) finished second while 17th-ranked Penn State (312-294-289=895) was third. UNCW (306-311-311=928) fired its second round of 311 in the tournament finale on Tuesday. Indiana junior Seth Brandon (69-76-72=216) earned medalist honors after finishing the tournament at even-par. Fellow Hoosier freshman Ren Han (70-75-72=217), East Carolina junior Markus Leandersson (72-73-72=217) and St. Mary’s senior Mike McRae (71-75-71=217) finished tied for second at one-over. Freshman Ryan Sullivan (75-79-74=228) led the Seahawks on the final day, carding a two-over-par 74 and finishing in a tie for 39th overall. Fellow freshman Josh Brock (76-74-79=229), who began the day in a tie for 13th, closed out his tournament with a seven-over 79 in the final round to tumble into a tie for 44th. Junior Will Shambley (77-79-77=233), who was the Seahawks leader in stroke average this season, finished in a tie 66th overall at 17-over for the tournament. The Seahawks return to action on Mar. 28 at the Furman Intercollegiate in Greenville, S.C.
