WILMINGTON, N.C. - Senior Mark Carver belted a grand slam, left, in the bottom of the first inning and the UNC Wilmington bullpen allowed just one run over the final six innings, as the Seahawk edged No. 18 Coastal Carolina in college baseball action Wednesday at Brooks Field.
The Seahawks tied a school record with their 13th consecutive win and improved to 14-4 with the non-conference victory. The Chanticleers, meanwhile, dropped their second straight and stand at 15-4 on the season.

Senior Allen Flood (2-0) picked up the win with three innings of 3-hit, 1-run relief for the Seahawks. Freshman lefthander Cameron Roth picked up his second save of the season, throwing three innings of no-hit, 4-strikeout relief.
Freshman Rich Witten (0-1) was saddled with the loss for the Chants. Witten, who made his second career start, was roughed up for four runs on four hits and a pair of walks in 2 2/3 innings.
UNCW opened the bottom of the first with a walk to sophomore Rhett Miller and consecutive hits by seniors Daniel Hargrave and Jason Appel (2-for-3) to load the bases for Carver, who launched hit sixth homer of the season, and the Seahawks first grand slam of the season, over the left center field wall for a 4-0 lead.
Coastal narrowed its deficit to 4-1 in the top of the third when junior Adam Rice fought off an inside fastball for a single to center that scored Chase Gilmore, who led off the inning with a walk.
In the CCU fourth, junior David Anderson, who led the Chants with two hits, lined a home run to left to move the Chants to within 4-2.
The Seahawks tacked on a run in the seventh to give them a 5-2 lead. CCU junior reliever Jason Richard hit freshman pinch hitter Alex Hill to lead off the inning and later hit sophomore Mike Rooney and loaded the bases when he issued a free pass to Miller. CCU junior reliever Pete Andrelczyk almost escaped the jam, but Appel drew a RBI walk with two outs to force in Hill.
Roth, who entered the game in the seventh, retired all nine batters he faced.
UNCW returns to Colonial Athletic Association action on Friday when they host a red-hot William & Mary club at 7 p.m.
Notes: UNCW won its 13th straight game, tying the school record set in 1995 … The Seahawks last win over a nationally-ranked opponent was in 2007, when they knocked off then 12th-ranked Texas Christian … Flood moved into a six-way tie for 14th at UNCW with his 17th career win … Sophomore Jesse Haney made his first career start and allowed one run on five hits over three innings … Appel owns the Seahawks longest current hitting streak at six games … The two teams will meet again on Mar. 26 in Conway, S.C.
