The New Hanover girls’ soccer team may have let up a goal last week, the first they allowed in seven games to start the season, but got back to their shutout ways, blanking West Brunswick 4-0 at Legion Stadium Wednesday night.

Charlotte Talbert got New Hanover on the board in the 30th minute, on assists from Erin Koballa and Emma Piazza, and Koballa added another goal, from Megan Thomas, putting the Cats up 2-0 at halftime.

Koballa added her second goal of the night, stealing a West Brunswick pass and drilling it into the back of the net from 12 yards out.  Lexi Herring capped the scoring in the 66th minute.

Head coach Al Pastore tried to emphasize the difference between hard work and intensity, getting his team to play with passion throughout, but his team may have been looking ahead to a big game with White Oak on Thursday, and an even bigger game with Hoggard next week.

Wildcat star Erin Koballa said the keys to the game were, “Team work and we used our speed.  We’re keeping it fun, but on the field, we know when it’s time to play.”

In other action…

The fifth ranked Hoggard Vikings suffered their first loss at Jacksonville on Wednesday 1-0.  Both teams sit at 4-1 in the Mideastern Conference, with Jacksonville’s only loss coming at the hands of New Hanover last week.

Ashley got their second win of the season as they rolled over Whiteville 7-0.  The Screamin’ Eagles will be looking for their first conference win on Monday when the host Laney.
