WILMINGTON, N.C. - Senior Mark Carver homered twice and sophomore Seth Frankoff struck out a season-high seven as UNC Wilmington set a new school record with its 14th straight win as the Seahawks downed William & Mary, 9-2, in Colonial Athletic Association baseball action Friday at Brooks Field.UNCW improved to 14-5 overall and remained undefeated in conference play at 7-0. The Tribe, who dropped its second straight outing, dipped to 16-6 and 7-3. The Seahawks’ 14th consecutive win broke the 1995 clubs’ mark of 13-in-a-row.Carver finished 3-for-5 with four runs batted in and raised his batting average to .418. Seniors Justin Barefoot and Daniel Hargrave added home runs for the Seahawks.Frankoff (4-0) found himself in a bases loaded, no-out situation in the top of the first, but escaped after allowing just a single run. The Apex, N.C., native allowed seven hits and walked none in seven innings.Tyler Stampone, Ben Guez, Tim Park and Greg Maliniak each had two hits for the Tribe on the evening.Senior Pete Vernon (3-1) suffered his first loss of the season, allowing eight runs, five earned, in seven innings. Vernon had tossed a 5-0 shutout against the Seahawks last season in Williamsburg.Park drove in the first run of the game with a sacrifice fly to center field to give the Tribe a 1-0 lead in the top of the first.Carver, who hit a grand slam in the first inning of the Coastal Carolina game earlier in the week, slammed his seventh homer of the season, a 2-run shot to left, in the bottom of the inning for a 2-1 Seahawk lead.UNCW pushed to a three run lead, 4-1, in the fourth on Barefoot’s 2-run shot to right off Vernon.Two W&M errors led to a pair of unearned runs in the fifth as UNCW built a 6-1 lead. With runners at first and second, Vernon made an errant throw on a pick off to first allowing Hargrave to score from second and move senior Jason Appel all the way to third. Carver drove in his third run of the game with a single through a drawn in infield that score Appel.Tribe committed two more errors in the seventh as UNCW extended its lead to 7-1. With runners again at first and second, Vernon again threw wildly to first base for his second error of the game scoring sophomore Mike Rooney, who reached base on a fielder’s choice and moved to second on a Tribe error, from second base.Carver hit his second homer of the game and eighth of the season when he led off the seventh with a round tripper down the leftfield line.Maliniak drove in W&M’s second run of the game with a fielder’s choice in the eighth.Hargrave slammed UNCW’s fourth homer of the night to make it 9-2 in the eighth to close out the scoring.The series continues on Saturday with a 4 p.m. start at Brooks Field.Notes: Cameron Roth allowed his first run, unearned, in 13 2/3 innings this season … Hargrave and Carver are tied for the team-lead with eight home runs … Hargrave is now third all-time with 29 career homers … Carver, meanwhile, moved into 10th all-time with 119 RBIs … The Seahawk pitching staff has posted a 2.30 ERA over the last five games … Frankoff has allowed one run, earned, over his last 14 innings … UNCW has hit 36 home runs this season after hitting just 43 in 2007.
