Tuesday’s Wilmington High School Highlights

Girls’ Soccer

In a Mideastern showdown, the Hoggard girls’ soccer team defeated New Hanover by the score of 2-1 on Tuesday night at Legion Stadium.  Hoggard entered the week ranked ninth in the state while New Hanover checked in one spot behind them at #10.

 

With the win, the Vikings improve to 8-1 over all and 4-1 in Mideastern play, while New Hanover, which started 8-0, falls to 8-2, 4-2 in the league.  Hoggard will play at West Brunswick Friday while New Hanover plays at White Oak, which beat the Wildcats 4-2 last Friday.  New Hanover is in the midst of a brutal part of their schedule - they are two games into a four game span where their opponents have a combined 37-3 record.

 

The Ashley girls soccer team defeated Laney 2-0, gaining their first conference win of the season.  The Screamin’ Eagles improved to 1-5 in the league aand 3-5-1 overall.  Laney dips to 1-4 in Mideastern play and 2-6-1 in all games.  Ashley is at Jacksonville on Friday and Laney hosts Panther Creek on Saturday.

 

News at Cape Fear Academy…

The Varsity “A” Boys Tennis team defeated NCHSAA (public school) #1 ranked Topsail High School by the score of 7-2 to improve to 5-0 overall. Wins by singles — John Anderson, Rob High, Michael Maynard, Parker Anderson, and Will Hamilton. Doubles wins from Greg Field/Andrew Schuett and Maynard/High. CFA travels to Ashley High School on Wednesday.

 

The Varsity Girls Lacrosse team defeated conference rival Ashley High School by the score of 12-10 to improve to 4-0 overall and 3-0 in the NCHSWLA Southeast Conference. CFA came from a 9-8 deficit with 9 minutes left in the 2nd half and took a 11-9 lead with 4 minutes remaining. CFA’s

final tally came with 1 minute left in the game.

 

The Varsity Softball lost to Wilmington Christian Academy by the score of 13-0 to fall to 3-1 overall for the season. The Lady Hurricanes came out with a sluggish performance from Easter Break. CFA looks to rebound on Thursday as they host Topsail HS.
