UNCW’s Blumenstein Takes Home CAA Track Honors

March 26th, 2008 · No Comments

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNC Wilmington junior Brian Blumenstein was named Colonial Athletic Association men’s track athlete-of-the-week after a record setting performance at the Shamrock Invitational last weekend in Conway, S.C.

Blumenstein finished second in the Decathlon in his first appearance of the season in the event. The Haddonfield, N.J., native set a school record with 6,509 points, breaking the previous mark of 6,270 set by John Gross at the same event in 2007.

Blumenstein, who was an All-East and All-CAA honoree as a sophomore, is the third Seahawk to earn CAA weekly honors, joining Ernest Asante (Track) and Bruce Smith (Field) who swept last week’s awards.

The Seahawks return to action on Mar. 27 at the Asics/Winthrop Invitational in Rock Hill, S.C.
