After beating Ashley 1-0 on Monday, Erin Koballa’s (pictured right) hat trick helped the Wildcats cruise past Laney on Wednesday 3-0. New Hanover capped the week with a 3-1 win over South Brunswick. It was Erin Koballa who started the scoring, but Lizeth Munguia and Megan Thomas got in on the fun as well as Coach Pastore used a balanced attack and all of his players in the win. New Hanover has been through the toughest part of their schedule in which they suffered the first losses of the season and have now come through with three straight wins this week to improve to 11-4. Head coach Al Pastore said,
“Winning these three games is a testament to their hard work and their dedication to reaching their goals. They said at the beginning of the season they wanted to limit the number of goals scored against and have been focused on that. Our back line has played very well and a lot of our offense comes from our defense. Kelley Yerkes, our goal keeper, is back after missing a year with an injury, and she has done an incredible job as well.”
Hoggard came into the week ranked tenth in the state, but lost to White Oak 2-1 on Wednesday. White Oak entered play this week as the #2 team in the state’s 3A poll and is now 10-1 overall while Hoggard slips to 9-2-1 and 6-2 in the conference. They have outscored their opponents 39-7 on the season and will look to get back to their winning ways on Friday at Socastee.
