WILMINGTON,N.C. – Popular basketball web site CollegeHoops.net has selected UNC Wilmington rookie Chad Tomko of UNC Wilmington to its Honorable Mention High-Major All-Freshman team following the Charlotte, N.C., native’s outstanding inaugural campaign with the Seahawks.
Tomko, a 5-10, 165-pound point guard, started every game for the 20-13 Seahawks, averaging 8.6 points, 2.9 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 28.8 minutes per game. The water bug was selected to the Colonial Athletic Association’s All-Rookie team after making a big splash in his debut year, including reaching double figures in 12 contests.
“I thought it was a great first season for Chad,” said Benny Moss, who orchestrated one of the nation’s best turnarounds in 2007-08. “It was a bit of a learning experience for him early, but he made the adjustments he needed to make as the season progressed and developed into one of the best point guards in the league. Fortunately for everyone involved with our program, his best days are still ahead of him.”
Two other CAA players were also featured on the list. CAA Rookie-of-the-Year Charles Jenkins of Hofstra was named to the All-Freshman Team and Delaware’s Alphonso Dawson joined Tomko on the Honorable Mention squad.
