HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Junior right-hander Kayleigh Lotti pitched a two-hit shutout to lead Hofstra to a 6-0 victory over UNC Wilmington in the finale of a three-game Colonial Athletic Association softball series Sunday at the Hofstra Softball Stadium.

The Pride improved to 23-9 overall and 7-2 in CAA play as it swept the weekend series and extended its winning streak to six games. The Seahawks, meanwhile, dropped to 11-20-1 on the season and 2-7 in league action.  Junior Kayleigh Lotti pitched a one-hit shutout in the opener and senior Courtney Oliver matched a career-high with 10 strikeouts in the nightcap as Hofstra swept UNC Wilmington, 7-0 and 8-0, in a Colonial Athletic Association softball doubleheader Saturday.

Lotti struck out 12 in seven innings as she improved to 10-4 on the season. She faced just four batters over the limit as she also walked two.

Freshman Sarah Michalowski went 3-for-3 with a RBI to pace the Hofstra attack while Erica Bernstein was 2-for-3 and senior Courtney Oliver was 1-for-2 with 2 RBI.

Senior Meghan Murray and sophomore Morgan Walters recorded the two Seahawk hits in the contest. Both players went 1-for-3 on the day.

The Pride scored all six of its runs in the second inning, exploding for six hits and using one UNCW error to build the early cushion. Hofstra got its first two runs of the frame on a throwing error by freshman shortstop Rachel Sawyer with the bases loaded and used singles from Michalowski, Oliver and Bernstein at plate the final four runs of the frame.

Senior Brittney Lehrschall was charged with the loss for UNCW, dropping her record to 4-7. In 2.0 innings of work, Lehrschall allowed six runs (all unearned) on six hits and four walks. Freshman Samantha Lisowsky relieved Lehrschall and went the final four innings, surrendering three hits and walking four.

UNCW returns to the field Wednesday as it closes out its non-conference slate with a 4 p.m. doubleheader at East Carolina. Hofstra is back in action Tuesday in a 3 p.m. twinbill versus Iona at the Hofstra Softball Stadium.   -Courtesy UNCW Sports Information
