WALLACE, N.C. – N.C. State erased an eight-shot deficit to capture the team championship and UNC Wilmington’s Carmen Perez-Narbon edged UNC Greensboro’s Erica Creed in the first playoff hole for medalist honors as the 2008 UNCW Lady Seahawk Classic wrapped up Tuesday at River Landing Golf Course.

Under cloudy skies and cool temperatures, the Wolfpack (305-300-291=896) ended up 3-over in the final round for a one-stroke victory over UNCG (303-294-300=897) on the Par 72, 6,183-yard layout. Host UNCW finished third at 305-295-300=900 and Campbell came in fourth at 296-302-304=902.

Perez-Narbon, meanwhile, picked up her second individual victory of the season by defeating Creed, a freshman from Kernersville, N.C. In the playoff, Narbon reached the Par 4, 368-yard first hole in regulation and sank a par putt, while Creed’s approach shot sailed wide of the green and she finished with a bogey. Narbon earlier captured medalist honors in Furman’s Lady Paladin Invitational back in October.

Perez-Narbon, a sophomore from Valencia, Spain, shot a 78-68-71=217 and Creed had a 74-70-73=217 scorecard. The win by Perez-Narbon kept the individual title in UNCW’s hands for the third straight year after Michelle Jarman claimed the title in 2006 and Emily Klein took home honors in 2007.

Senior Stephanie Derry fired a 1-under 71 and junior Lauren Doughtie and sophomore Emily Street fashioned 73’s to help N.C. State climb from fourth place after two rounds. Doughtie finished third overall with a 76-70-73=219 and Derry wound up tied for fourth at 74-75-71=220.

Campbell raced out to a five-stroke lead after the opening round with an 8-over par 296 before UNCG rallied with a 10-under 294 for the second round lead.

Coastal Carolina senior Jessica Vincent recorded the event’s first Hole-In-One when she used a six iron to ace the Par 3, 156-yard Par 8 hole late Monday.
