Hoggard And CFA Make Strong Showing At Boys’ State Golf Championships

May 14th, 2008 · 1 Comment

The Hoggard golf team traveled to Pinehurst on Tuesday and made a very impressive showing, finishing seventh in the state.

Hoggard golf coach Curt Budd was pleased with the Vikings’ performance, but said of his team, “We had high expectations.  We finished fourth last year, and wanted to go higher this year, but it’s golf, and anything can happen…there were a lot of good teams.”

Taking top honors for Hoggard was Jonathan Miles who carded a 71-73 two round total of 144, good enough for third place in the entire state; a good way to spend your birthday, no less.  While wanting to win, Miles said, “It was a very good finish.  I got the most out of my round…it’s a tough course.”

The Vikings will lose one senior from this year’s team and can hopefully retain the services of Scott Coleman, who is starring on the baseball diamond. (see “Hoggard Hammers New Bern, Vikings Advance in NCHSAA Playoffs”)
