WILMINGTON, N.C. - On the eve of opening play in the NCAA Baseball Regionals. UNC Wilmington junior righthanded pitcher Brad Holt and senior catcher Mark Carver, left, were named third-team Louisville Slugger TPX All-America by Collegiate Baseball on Thursday.
Holt and Carver are the Seahawks first All-America selections since the 2006 season when former Seahawk standout John Raynor, who is playing with the Carolina Mudcats in the Florida Marlin minor league organization, earned second-team honors from Collegiate Baseball and third-team from Baseball America.
Holt, who will start UNCW’s regional opener against Elon, enters the postseason having won his last 10 decisions and a 10-1 mark overall. The hard-throwing Holt recorded a career-best 3.30 earned run average while striking out 92 in 84 2/3 innings. Holt, who was a first-team All-Colonial Athletic Association selection, leads the 11-team circuit in opponent batting average, limiting foes to a .226 batting average.
Joining Holt on the third team is Carver, who was named CAA Player-of-the-Year after hitting a school-record tying 21 homers and driving in a record-breaking 79 runs. Carver is nationally-ranked in both categories entering the Regional. He’s second on the club with a .353 batting average and is tied for second with 69 runs scored.

The Seahawks, the No. 2 seed in the four-team regional, take on state rival and third-seeded Elon at 2 p.m. in the first game of the day at the USA Baseball National Training Complex. Top-seeded UNC Chapel Hill squares off against No. 4 Mount St. Mary’s at 6 p.m.
WAAV plans to carry all of UNCW’s games in the three-day, double elimination regional, with Mike Vaccaro, the play-by-play voice of the Seahawks, providing the call.
