CFSR Readers’ Poll - Team of the Year

Everybody’s an expert - here’s you chance to put in your two cents for free.  While each team below should be commended for their excellence on the field, court, mat, or whatever, we wanted to know from our readers, who stands above the rest and is deserving of the being named CFSR’s Team of the Year?  You can vote online at capefearsportsreport.com.

And The Nominees Are . . .

 

Ashley Girls’ Golf

The Mideastern Conference champs finished third at Regionals and had four members (Jessica Hook, Marjorie Whitney, Megan Katsch and Sarah Winnick) compete in state regional competition.

 

Cape Fear Academy Boys’ Tennis

The Hurricanes won the NCISAA state championship this spring.

 

Hoggard Football

The Vikings won the 4A state championship, a 28-0 shutout of Mt. Tabor, for the first time in school history.  They even pasted New Bern, which went on to win the 4AA state title, during the regular season.

 

Hoggard Girls’ Tennis

The team made it to the regional final and Kaitlin Burns won the singles title for the second consecutive year. 

 

Hoggard Boys’ Golf

The team finished seventh in the state as Jonathan Miles finished third overall individually.

 

Laney Wrestling

The team qualified six wrestlers for the 4A North Carolina HS Wrestling Championships at the Lawrence Joel Coliseum in Winston Salem as the Bucs finished second in team points, just 5.5 points out of first place.

 

Laney Girls’ Basketball

The Mideastern Conference regular champs made it to the Regional Finals before being eliminated in the state playoffs.

 

New Hanover Boys’ Basketball

The boys couldn’t win the state title again, but they ran the table in the Mideastern Conference and had the city captivated this winter as they tried to go back-to-back.

 

UNCW Baseball

The team set a school record for wins and set a CAA record for conference wins as they advanced to the NCAA Tournament.

 

UNCW Men’s Basketball

The Seahawks brought excitement back to Trask Coliseum as they posted a 20 win season.

 

UNCW Women’s Golf

The team advanced to the NCAA Regionals as Carmen Perez-Narbon placed ninth individually.
