Wilmington Sharks catcher Kolby Epley and left-handed pitcher Brett Bloomquist take a few moments out of the busy season to answer some questions to let you in on a few of their personal favorites and experiences.
Brett Bloomquist: sophomore pitcher from Appalachian State University

If you could have dinner with anyone, who would it be? One last meal with my Aunt and Grandparents
You never leave home without….my wallet
Best thing you got for free? The chance to be in Sports Illustrated for Kids when I was 7 years old
Where do you see yourself in 10 years? I see myself married with two or three great kids and of course a couple of dogs also either living in either California or North Carolina.
How do you enjoy your days off? Scuba diving, spending time with my dogs, reading, and of course relaxing
What is the difference in playing for Appalachian State and the Sharks, in terms of level of play? Not having to practice and just playing games makes it a lot more fun
What do you like best about pitching? Setting the tempo of the game
What, so far, has been your funniest exchange at the plate with a player or umpire? Kolby Epley’s funny comments always keep it interesting
Is the transition from Appalachian State to the Sharks, with all new teammates as tough as it can seem? Not at all it’s a great group of guys that are a lot of fun to be around
What is your favorite pitch to throw? Curveball; it used to be my best pitch before my surgery
How do you mentally prepare before each game? I listen to good music and say the Lord’s Prayer
How do you feel about throwing to wooden bats as oppose to metal bats? It’s a lot easier to pitch to someone swinging a wooden bat as opposed to metal.

In 10 years where do you want to be? I want to maintain a successful job and have a large family.
How do you enjoy your days off? Hanging out with my friends and relaxing
What is the difference in playing for College of Charleston and the Sharks, in terms of level of play? The Sharks have a laid back approach that makes the games more enjoyable.
What do you like best about catching? Being involved in every pitch
What, so far, has been your funniest exchange at the plate with a player or umpire?Discussing the recent ejection of a player
Is the transition from College of Charleston to the Sharks, with all new teammates as tough as it can seem? No, we all get along which makes the transition not an issue.
Who is the toughest pitcher to catch for and why? Ryan Vander Tuig because he has a lot of movement on his pitches
What is a better feeling, throwing out a runner trying to steal or hitting a homerun?Hitting a homerun
Have you ever been bowled over at the plate? Yes, I was 15 and we were playing a team from Miami. There was a kid who was about a foot shorter than me who came in with his shoulder as I caught the ball from right field. I rolled about three times, it hurt pretty badly.
