Carolina Men’s Baseball League Update - 7/13

July 14th, 2008 · No Comments

The Carolina Men’s Baseball League featured 2 very nicely played games on Sunday, July 13th.  In the early game at Myrtle Grove Middle School the Old Salts defeated the Sea Hawks 7 to 1 behind the pitching debut of former UNC basketball star Jim Moore, and solid relief pitching by Steve Goodman.

Goodman was also the hitting star for the Old Salts, going 3 for 4 with two doubles and 5 RBI. Terry Peters and Phil Kaufman had 2 hits each, and Tom Halford made several excellent scoops at first base.  Alan Paull took the loss for the Sea Hawks. Bob Bennett lead the Hawks attack with 3 hits.

In the late game at Castle Hayne the Mudcats clipped the Brewers 8 to 5 in another well-played game. David Eason and Jay Hart did a nice job on the mound for the Mudcats, with Jay Hart earning the win. Lee Shelton pitched well, but took the loss for the Brewers. Pat Hanley led the Mudcats with 3 solid hits including a long double to left-center that short-hopped the fence.  David Eason (the OTHER David Eason in the league) led the Brewers with a wicked line drive 2 run dinger to left field. Corey “Chief” Lewis and Dan Southerland each had two hits for the Brewers.  Unfortunately Dan destroyed his brand new baseball pants on a hard slide into home plate.  (Who wouldn’t trade a pair of pants for a run?!)

The CMBL season will continue on Sunday, July 20th, with The Old Salts hosting the Brewers at Myrtle Grove at noon, followed by the Sea Hawks vs. Batter Up  at 4 pm.  At Castle Hayne Park the Red Sox will host the Mudcats at 4 pm.
