A two out stolen base of home breaks the back of the Sharks in the ninth as they fall 5-4 in Fayetteville Tuesday night.
The Sharks got on the board early but could not carry the offense into the later innings at the Swamp. In the second inning back to back singles by Kolby Epley(College of Charleston) and Ryan Graepel(North Carolina) got things rolling. A sacrifice bunt moved the runners into scoring position for Daniel Parker(Illinois) who drove Epley home with a sac fly. With two down Matt Kirchner(Elon) singled and Bobby Leeper(UNC-Wilmington)tripled to put the Sharks up 3-0 early.
Matt Freeman(Nebraska) started for the Sharks going seven and two thirds innings giving up three runs on six hits. He would give a run back in the bottom of the second. A lead-off double came home to score on a grounder to put Fayetteville on the board. After that Freeman would hold the Swampdogs in check without a hit until the sixth. A run would come home in the sixth and then in the eighth off Freeman to pull the game close.
The Sharks led it 4-3 headed to the bottom of the ninth as Tyler White(Alabama) took the hill. With two down and the bases loaded a three one pitch sailed high and the tying run came home. Then, during the very next at bat, the runner from third broke on the pitch and stole home to win the ballgame 5-4.
White took the loss to move to 0-3. The Sharks record drops to 17-23 on the season and the Swampdogs move to 20-19. The two teams will meet again Thursday night at the Shark Tank starting at 7pm. Its another Thirsty Thursday out at the Tank so come on out for all the great drink specials.
