WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNC Wilmington rising junior baseball player Bobby Leeper, has been selected to start in the outfield for the National Squad at the Coastal Plain League All-Star game on July 22 at McCrary Park in Asheboro, N.C.
Leeper, who plays for the hometown Wilmington Sharks, is second on the club with a .321 batting and owns team-leading totals of three home runs, 14 stolen bases and .511 slugging percentage. He is also tied for the team-lead in hits (44), doubles (7) and triples (5).
As a sophomore, Leeper hit a career-best .328 while starting 28-of-44 games in the Seahawk outfield. He was named to the Cary All-Regional after hitting. 313 as the Seahawks reached the regional finals for the third time in four tournament appearances.
The Sharks, who play at Buck Hardee Field at the Legion Field Complex in Wilmington, open a brief 2-game homestand on July 17 at 7 p.m. against rival Fayetteville.
