Junior Ashley Tait carded a third-round 72 to lead UNC Wilmington in the final round of the Ron Moore Women’s Intercollegiate Wednesday at the Highlands Ranch Golf Club.

Tait finished with a tournament total of 218 (69-77-72=218) to claim ninth place and post the fifth top-10 finish of her career. Junior Carmen Perez-Narbon shot a one-over 73 on the third day and finish in a three-way tie for 19th with a three-round result of 226 (82-71-73-226). Freshman Sofia Hagsund (85-76-77=238/T-52nd), senior Christie Appleton (80-82-79=241/T-60th) and sophomore Cristina Manrique (83-81-78=242/T-62nd) rounded out the Seahawks entry. Freshman Alee Mitchell competed as an individual and posted a 261 (92-84-85=261/72nd) in her three rounds.

Denver’s Stephanie Sherlock fired a four-under-par 68 on the final day to overcome a two-shot deficit and capture individual medalist honors with a 10-under-par total of 206 (67-71-68). UC Irvine’s Jane Chin (69-67-72=208) took second with a three-round result of 208. Erica Muston of San Jose State was third with a tournament total of 210 (68-72-70=210).

UNCW combined for a 300 on the final day to claim 10th place with a three-round total of 919 (314-305-300=914). Denver recorded its third straight sub-par round on Wednesday with a 280 and finished with a 11-under result of 853 (287-286-280) to record a 27-stroke victory over second-place TCU (305-289-286=880). San Jose State took third with a three-round total of 888 (293-298-297).

UNCW is back in action Oct. 6-7, when they travel to Evanston, Ill., to take part in the Windy City Classic, hosted by Northwestern.
