WILMINGTON, N.C. – Senior Maddie Haseltine posted a game-high 10 kills to pace a Tigers attack that recorded a .421 hitting percentage as Towson swept UNC Wilmington (25-14, 25-17, 25-15) in Colonial Athletic Association volleyball action Friday at Hanover Hall. It was the conference opener for both schools.
The Tigers improved to 12-4 as they won their fourth straight match while Seahawks dropped to 5-8 overall as their losing skid stretched to seven games.
Haeltine paced a Towson attack that committed just seven errors in 76 total attempts and saw six different players post an attack percentage above .300. Sophomore Britney Loomis posted eight kills and sophomore Shelynne Hoyt chipped in seven. Hoyt also posted seven block assists as Towson enjoyed a 13-2 advantage at the net. Missy Rohrbaugh tallied a game-high 12 digs and Haseltine pitched in seven.
Junior Lindsey Strucko tallied a team-high eight kills as UNCW combined for a .022 hitting percentage. Sophomore Rachael Caricato added six kills and junior Anna Price notched five. Strucko also posted a team-best eight digs while junior Ashlyn Morris chipped in seven.
Haseltine accounted for six of Towson’s 14 kills in the opening game as the Tigers combined for a .522 hitting percentage on its way to a 25-14 win.
Six different Towson players posted a kill in game two as Towson committed just one attack error in 30 attempts in a 25-17 victory. Game three saw the Tigers record a 25-15 victory as Towson recorded six total blocks in the decisive game, including five block assists by Hoyt.
Both teams return to action Sunday with Colonial Athletic Association matches at 2 p.m. UNCW hosts Delaware while Towson is at Georgia State. -Courtesy UNCW
