The only game to be played in Wilmington on Friday will take place at Hoggard as Jacksonville comes to town to take on the 7-1 Vikings, which enter the game ranked fourth in the 4A NC Coaches’ Poll. Hoggard is coming off a 14-7 win over Laney, in which they scored a late fourth quarter touchdown on a Brad Busby 20 yard run, breaking the 7-7 tie.
New Hanover (3-1 in conference) could set up a show down next Friday with Hoggard (4-0 in conference) in the regular season finale, one that would have Mideastern Championship implications, but they better not overlook West Brunswick tonight. The Trojans are a much improved team; they have already locked up a 3A playoff bid, a year after going 0-11. The Cats were off last week and if they don’t look past the Trojans, they should be well prepared.
Laney will look to bounce back from last week’s disappointing loss to Hoggard where they almost sprung the upset with a road game at White Oak. The Bucs dipped to 2-2 in the league and will look to get their record back up over .500 with a win.
Ashley has Friday off and concludes their regular season slate next week at Laney.
