The Hoggard Boys’ and Girls’ Cross Country teams both competed in the NCHSAA Championships on Saturday.
On the boys’ side, senior Charles Wofford (pictured) finished sixth overall and was named first team all state for his efforts. Just a few seconds off his personal best, Wofford showed why he has been out in front during conference meets for the past few seasons. Mason Boyles had an impressive run, finishing 28th, and as a team, the Vikings placed ninth in the state.
Unlike the boys, the girls’ team didn’t have a dominant runner like Wofford, but were comprised of consistent batch of runners. Hoggard finished in fifteenth place overall. Johanna Ferebee, 87th, was the top Viking finisher. Casey Errante, 98th, Marisa Turner, 100th, and Natalie Lynch, 101st, were close behind.
New Hanover freshman Shelby Howell, who finished second in the Mideastern Conference Championships, crossed the line in 39th place and was the top local finisher in the girls’ race.
