New Hanover Tops on the Pitch; Ashley Eliminated From NCHSAA Playoffs

November 5th, 2008 · No Comments

NHHS Men’s Soccer continues to roll on in the state 4A playoffs with their 6-1 thrashing of East Chapel Hill.

Brannon Blanke, pictured, continued his torrid pace of scoring goals with not 1, or 2 but three more goals added on to his record breaking total . Ross Tomaselli assisted in Blanke’s first two goals and also scored two goals himself. Tomaselli’s first goal was another classic “Bend it like Ross” free kick from 20 yards out that he is famous for putting into the back of the opponents net. Quinn Richardson also added a goal when he received a nice pass from Blanke in front of the visitors net shortly before halftime.

New Hanover will now have to travel to Southern Pines to take on Pinecrest, #8 in the state, in the 4th round of the 4A Playoffs. Pinecrest stood in the way of setting up an all Wilmington match up by way of beating Ashley 1-0 in Southern Pines Wednesday night.  The Eagles came in on a seven game winning streak and conclude a fantastic season with a 15-5-3 record.

With the win, Pinecrest improved to 20-2-3;  they have not lost since 9/26 when #7 Apex got the better of them.  Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
