The Laney Bucs stepped out of conference Tuesday and traveled to East Columbus to face the Gators where the boys’ and girls’ teams had mixed results.
In the boys’ game, Laney opened up a 16-9 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Gators managed to make a surge took a slim lead over Laney, but that is about the time the Bucs pulled away. With a furious third quarter onslaught, Laney opened up a comfortable working margin on route to their 69-56 win.
Antwan Bosier and Anthony Austin both scored 21 points for Laney.
In the girls’ game, the Bucs were outscored 22-11 in the decisive third quarter as they saw their first half lead disappear. Sophomore Kabrina Truesdale was the leading scorer for Laney with 14 points.
The Bucs are back on the court Friday when they travel to Jacksonville.
