GREENSBORO, NC - Zack Allen made a layup and free throw with nine seconds left to give Hoggard a 55-53 win over Greensboro Day on Friday night in the Coaches vs. Cancer Invitational in Greensboro. Allen scored 23 points to lead the Vikings (7-2) while Logan Cain had 11. Tyler Heffernan hit three fourth quarter three-pointers to help Hoggard come from seven points down for the win.The first half was dominated by the defenses and was close throughout. Hoggard led 24-22 at the break as Allen scored 13 of his points before intermission. The Vikings scored the first two baskets of the second half before Greensboro Day (8-2) went on a 26-13 run that gave them a 48-41 lead with just over four minutes remaining in the game. But the Vikings didn’t give up and Heffernan scored nine off their next 11 points to give Hoggard a 52-51 lead with just under a minute remaining.
Following a Bengal basket with 18 seconds left, Will Keistler hit Allen on a backdoor cut and he made the shot as he was being fouled. After Allen completed the three-point play, Logan Cain deflected a pass on the final play of the game to seal the win.
The Vikings shot 61 percent from the floor, 58 percent from three point range, and 91 percent from the free throw line for the game.
Hoggard will play its third game in three days when they take on High Point Christian tomorrow at noon on the final day of the event.
