WILMINGTON, NC – December 29, 2008 – Former head coach for the Wilmington Sea Dawgs, Kevin Whitted was announced as the assistant coach for the Fort Wayne Mad Ants NBA Development League. Kevin Whitted, will coach along side head coach NBA veteran Jaren Jackson and assistant coach Doug Knoll.
“I am truly excited about the opportunity to work with this great organization, as well as having the opportunity to work in the NBA Development League”, stated Whitted.
For such a short coaching career, Whitted has an impressive resume. He began his professional coaching career in the American Basketball Association (ABA) and the Professional Basketball League (PBL). During Whitted’s first two years as a head coach, he won two division championships in the ABA. In addition, he has been recognized nationally as a top basketball skill developer. His well-rounded background also includes the role of General Manager and President of Basketball Operations for the Wilmington Sea Dawgs and a Nike Skills Development trainer.
Whitted, the founder of the Kevin Whitted School of Basketball and Kevin Whitted Basketball Services will maintain his primary residency in Wilmington. In addition, Kevin will continue the Spring and Fall sessions for the School of Basketball, summer camps/clinics and his private skill training sessions. “This is my home”, states Whitted. “I will continue to service my clients and maintain my skill development program that has grown so much in the past two years.” Whitted says he will split his time monthly between Wilmington and Fort Wayne during the basketball season. “It is important for me to make sure that all of my students are getting the attention that they deserve,” states Kevin.
Whitted started his basketball career at Laney High School as a standout and finished his career as the all time leading scorer. He was a three year starter at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville where he earned his degree in computer technology. After graduation, Whitted played in Europe and later in the NBA with the Dallas Mavericks. Whitted currently resides in Kure Beach, North Carolina with his wife De`Neia and their 19 month old daughter, Paige.

The D-League is the official development league for the NBA. The NBA D-League tipped off its seventh season on November 23 with 14 teams. The NBA Development League was established to teach skills that would elevate players to the NBA in addition to testing products which will enhance the way the game is played. The key word with the NBA Development League is “Development.”
