The Lady Vikings set the tempo Friday night as they topped Ashley 50-39 and in the nightcap, the Hoggard boys used a 17 point fourth quarter to post a 47-45 come-from-behind win over the Eagles.
In the boys’ game, the Vikings jumped out to an 8-3 lead, but trailed for most of the final three quarters before grabbing the lead with under two minutes remaining in the game. Zack Allen had 14 points and four assists while Logan Cain added 12 points and five rebounds for Hoggard.
Ashley (5-10, 1-3) built a 22-19 lead at halftime by forcing 10 Hoggard turnovers and making six of their seven second quarter field goal attempts. Hoggard (12-3, 3-0) was able to make their comeback by cutting down on those turnovers, committing just four in the second half. Stilman White also scored all 11 of his points after halftime.
Will Keistler added six points, five rebounds, four assists, and two steals for Hoggard.
Earlier in the evening, the Hoggard JV team defeated Ashley 51-26 to move to 10-3 overall and 3-0 in the conference.
The Lady Vikings were also victorious as they improved to 12-1 and 3-0 in league play with their 50-39 win. Haley Black led an extremely balanced attack for Hoggard with 10 points. Danielle Bongiorno and Morgan Pope each scored nine points, while McKenzi Edwards and Shiyana Houser both chipped in with eight.
Ashley dipped to 1-3 in the Mideastern Conference and 7-8 overall with the loss. Megan Goins scored 13 points the lead the Eagles.
Ashley will host White Oak on Tuesday and then play at Laney on Friday.
