Laney Trounces Trojans

January 10th, 2009 · No Comments

The Laney Buccaneers played their most complete game of the season Friday night as they walloped West Brunswick 80-44 in a Mideastern match up at Michael Jordan Gymnasium.  The girls’ team was impressive as well as they won their second game in as many days.

Laney jumped out to a 25-7 lead at the end of the first quarter and extended the lead to 49-15 by halftime as their torrid shooting propelled them to an easy win.

Anthony Alston (17), Antwan Bosier (16), Mark Rice (15) and TJ Lynch (10) were all in double figures for the Bucs.

It was the first conference win for Laney against three losses as they improved to 4-10 on the season.

Brian Gore and Eric Hewitt each scored eight points for West.

The win snapped an eight game losing streak for Laney; they lost the last three by  a total of 10 points.

After a tough 40-18 loss to New Hanover on Monday, the Lady Bucs came into Friday’s game feeling better as they beat White Oak 42-35 on Thursday.  They carried their momentum over to Friday’s contest against West Brunswick and tallied a 51-30 victory.

Rebecca Burke scored 15 points to lead the way for Laney and Kabrina Truesdale added 14 for the now 5-8, 2-2 Lady Bucs.

The Bucs have a big week ahead of them as they welcome two in-town rivals.  Laney will host Hoggard on Tuesday and then Ashley on Friday.
