Laney and Ashley Split Boys’ and Girls’ Basketball Games

January 17th, 2009 · No Comments

Laney bounced back from a narrow loss to Ashley during the Leon Brogden Holiday Tournament to beat the Eagles 60-52 in Michael Jordan Gymnasium Friday night, but in the girls’ game, it was Ashley who came out on top.

The Bucs, winners of their last three boys’ basketball games, didn’t start strong as Ashley came out on fire.  The visiting Eagles led 22-13 after the first quarter, but Laney outscored Ashley  25-12 during the second, taking a four point lead into the locker room.

Ashley was able to keep within striking distance, however the Bucs fended off any and all comeback attempts as they improved to 6-10 overall and 3-3 in the league.

Anthony Alston was a force down low for Laney and finished with 20 points to lead all scorers.

In the girls’ game, Ashley posted a big conference win as they beat Laney 45-43.

The Eagles were led by Ashley Altman, 16 points, and Kelsey Hopper, 14 points, as they seized control of the game in the third quarter before keeping the Lady Bucs at bay.

Kabrina Truesdale poured in 20 points in the loss for Laney.
