The Laney girls’ basketball team won a thrilling overtime affair over Pender Friday night, however the boys’ team was bumped off 55-47, as their three game winning streak came to an end.
The Lady Bucs had been on a bit of a slide, losing back-to-back close games to Hoggard and Ashley, so they weren’t about to let another one slip away.
Facing a good out-of-conference rival in Pender, the Lady Bucs came up big when they needed to. After not exactly lighting up the scoreboard in regulation, the Bucs put on a 9-1 run in overtime to win 39-31.
On the boys’ side, Pender came out of halftime trailing by four points, but outscored Laney 19-5 during the third quarter on route to a 55-47 win. Pender improved to 16-3 overall, while the Bucs are now 6-11 overall and are 3-3 in the Mideastern Conference.
Laney is back on the hardwood Saturday when East Coumbus visits Michael Jordan Gymnasium.
