After the New Hanover girls’ basketball team downed White Oak to improve to 5-1 in the Mideastern Conference, the boys’ team did likewise as they pulled away down the stretch and went on for an 11-point victory.
Morgan King and Tysheia Robinson have led the Lady Wildcats in scoring all season, and Friday night was no different. King’s 16 points and Robinson’s 12 helped NHHS improve to 14-4 overall as they sit one game behind Hoggard for first-place in the conference.
In the boys’ game, Jackiel Moore connected on five three-pointers as he poured home 27 points as New Hanover downed White Oak 79-68.
The Wildcats played a solid fourth quarter and were able to wear down White Oak with their pressing tempo. New Hanover was able to use their athleticism enough to open up a more comfortable lead during the fourth quarter, in what had otherwise been a close game throughout.
After back-to-back losses against Jacksonville and Topsail, the Wildcats have now won two influential conference games in a row against the Vikings of Hoggard and White Oak.
Stephen Wilson played very well on the offensive end, tallying 18 points for New Hanover which upped their record to 12-4 on the season.
New Hanover will play at Ashley on Tuesday.
