Hoggard Girls’ Basketball Team Pays Tribute To Kay Yow

January 30th, 2009 · No Comments

On Thursday night, the Hoggard girls’ basketball team came out for warm-ups in pink t-shirts in honor of Kay Yow, the NC State Hall of Fame Coach who passed away after losing her battle with cancer.

The Lady Vikes have attended camp at NC State for years, so the Hoggard girls felt the impact of her passing and wanted to do something to pay their respects. The shirts had the cancer awareness ribbon on the front and read “Kay Yow; 1/24/09″ on the back.  Danielle Bongiorno and Shelby Goerne led the effort to get the pink cancer awareness Kay Yow tees for warm ups, and the team didn’t let Coach Yow down as they kept their undefeated Mideastern record in tact by posting a 52-38 win.

Coincidentally, Friday is Coaches vs. Cancer night… suits and sneakers for the coaches and the players will be wearing pink shoelaces in an effort to help raise awareness and money for cancer research.
