In a week where the Sharks offense continued a rise to the top of the CPL charts, the sound of one Wilmington bat cracked with a bit more intensity. That bat belonged to Adam Eggemeyer.
The lefty from SIU-Edwardsville was rewarded for his efforts by being named the Rawlings Coastal Plain League Hitter of the Week.
During his award winning run, Eggemeyer batted an even .500 picking up 13 hits in all. He notched 25 total bases on the week for a .962 slugging percentage and a .536 on base percentage.
To go with his on base feats, the Steeleville, IL native had a hand in 17 Sharks runs on the week, scoring eight and driving in nine. Eggemeyer showed bursts of power as well, hammering out three doubles and three home runs on the week.
“Adam carried us most of the week with his bat,” Sharks head coach Jake Tenhouse said. “He was as locked in as anyone I have seen. When Adam’s going like that, he is a lot of fun to watch hit.”
On the season Eggemeyer tops the league leaders as the CPL’s only .400 hitter with a .429 batting average. Arm stiffness has kept the natural centerfielder in the DH roll while he has climbed into the CPL top five in hits, RBI, home runs, total bases, doubles, slugging percentage, runs scored and on base percentage.
The Sharks, and their newly minted player of the week Eggemeyer, were back in action at the “Shark Tank” for a Mother’s Monday against the Catawba Valley Stars. The June 15th exhibition was won by the Sharks 6-1.
The Sharks are also home Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday this week. Gates open at 6 with first pitch at 7.
The Wilmington Sharks are members of the summer collegiate Coastal Plain League, the nation’s hottest summer collegiate baseball league. In 2008 the Sharks drew more than 50,000 fans to the “Shark Tank” for an average of 1,650 per game.
