UNCW’s Bobby Leeper, Daniel Cropper and Thomas Pope were named to the Coastal Plain All-Star rosters this week and will play in the midseason classic on July 20 in Wilmington, N.C., at Legion Field, the home of the Wilmington Sharks and Daniel Cropper.
Cropper stayed in Wilmington after UNCW’s season concluded to play for the Wilmington Sharks. He checks in at the All Star Break with a 2.18 earned run average, with 52 K’s in 53 2/3 innings. Cropper is just 2-3 but has held opponents to a 1.88 batting average.
At the time of the announcement, Leeper was leading the Wilson Tobs with a .290 batting average while starting all 39 games. Leeper also ranks among the league leaders in runs (33), triples (4) and stolen bases (18).
While Leeper and Cropper will play for the National team, Thomas Pope will represent the Asheboro Copperheads on the American squad. Pope joined Asheboro early in the season and has responded with a .317 batting average while playing centerfield. Pope has scored 15 runs and posted a .397 on base average from the leadoff spot in the lineup.
Cropper will have summer league teammates in the game as well, however fellow Sharks Jesse Bosnik and Adam Eggemeyer will be in the opposite dugout playing for the American team.
Wilmington Sharks owner Conor Caloia is excited about hosting the event. “This is a great opportunity for the Sharks to showcase what we do at Buck Hardee Field as well as the Greater Wilmington area,” Caloia said. “We will have two days of events featuring the premiere collegiate baseball players in the country.”
