WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNC Wilmington senior Derek Wallace was named Colonial Athletic Association Co-Golfer-of-the-Week after leading the Seahawks to their first tournament win since the 2007-08 season.
Wallace fashioned his third top-10 finish of the fall in as many tournaments when he placed third at the VCU Shootout earlier this week. Wallace (68-73-75=216) finished seven strokes off the pace and topped three nationally-ranked players in the field.
The Seahawks won the tournament by five strokes over second-place Virginia, who entered the tournament ranked in Golfstat’s top-20 at 19. Iowa was the other top-20 squad, checking in at 18th.
With the outing, Wallace also moved into UNCW’s top-10 list in career rounds with 99 and he moved into seventh on the all-time stroke leader list with a 74.49 average.
Wallace shared the award with George Mason’s Marshall Tinsley.
