The last straw, the one that broke the camel’s back was Wednesday night’s blow out loss, but clearly, the writing has been on the wall.
After a disappointing 7-22 ‘08-’09 season, Benny Moss was given support by athletic director Kelly Mehrtens, but with the team mired in a mid-season slump, staring at a 7-14 record and another losing year, Moss has been reassigned within the athletic department.

Third-year assistant coach Brooks Lee has been named interim head coach for the remainder of the season, and will make his debut Saturday when UNCW hosts Towson for homecoming.
Moss began his four-year stint as head coach during the 2006-07 season, but after a 41-74 overall record, and 23-45 CAA record, the program will be heading in a different direction. Jerry Wainwright was recently fired at DePaul and many would love to see him return to Trask Coliseum, although no permanent replacement has been officially discussed.
Moss, the seventh coach in UNCW history, joined the Seahawks after serving six seasons as an assistant at UNC Charlotte. The Seahawks finished just 7-22 in his first year on the sidelines, but rebounded with a soled 20-13 ‘07-’08 season.
