With Hoggard’s upset of Greenville Rose Friday night, the Mideastern Conference Championships could be sewn up before the end of the regular season.

Coincidentally, the Vikings helped out their cross-town rivals. With a win at Rose on Tuesday, New Hanover would clinch the out-right title, something Ashley has already done on the girls side.

Laney put up a good fight against the Wildcats Friday night, as they usually do, but New Hanover was able to take the game over when it mattered most and with Hoggard topping Rose down at Hebbe Gym, the Wildcats enter the final week of the regular season with a one game lead over Rose, making Tuesday’s game, the biggest of the season.

But with a Wildcat win, the final night of the regular season will feature in-town clashes that decide very little in the final conference standings. The Ashley girls are still undefeated, so while they’ve clinched, they still have something on the line. These games are always for bragging rights, but with a conference title up for grabs, they are even better.
