Wednesday Night’s Wilmington High School Basketball Round Up

February 25th, 2010 · No Comments

The New Hanover boys basketball was involved in a nip and tuck game through out, but led most of the way. That changed late as they found themselves down by two. Freddie Jackson forced overtime with ten seconds left as he drove to the hoop, making the game tying lay up.

The Wildcats pulled away in the final minute overtime, winning 68-64, advancing to round three on Friday when they will host Garner. New Hanover improves to 17-9 with the win.

Hoggard will not be advancing to the third round, they ran into the buzz saw that is the number one team in the state. Hoggard fell 64-25 to Terry Sanford who is now 27-0 with Wednesday’s win. The Vikings end the season 15-12.

The Ashley girls made school history as they won both the regular season and conference tourney championships this year for the first time ever, but they were bounced from the state playoffs in round two in convincing fashion, 59-39, by Fayetteville 71st.

Tune into the Cape Fear Sports Report on Sunday (noon on WWAY) for a complete re-cap of all the playoff action.
